Principle 2: Contribution Is Not Attention

Contribution is different in structure. Genuine contribution creates lasting capability in specific other people that persists when the contributor is absent. It does not scale with compute. Identity is the verified causal record of what genuine contribution produced in the world — in specific people whose formation persisted, in specific patterns that propagated further, in the accumulated evidence that a specific conscious being genuinely existed through genuine effects on other conscious beings.
This record must travel with the person across every institutional boundary. Principle 6: Meaning Equals Capacity Increase
Meaning is not a feeling. It is not an intention. It is not moral worth or subjective significance or the internal experience of having done something important.
Meaning, in the framework of Cogito Ergo Contribuo, is falsifiable and binary: either someone can do something they could not do before, as a verifiable result of genuine encounter with genuine formation, or meaning did not occur. Not approximately. Not partially. Either the capability exists independently or it does not.
This makes meaning measurable without reducing it. The measurement is not the meaning — the genuine formation that created the capability is the meaning. But the measurement reveals whether meaning occurred: whether the encounter deposited something that persists, transfers to novel contexts, and enables reconstruction rather than mere retrieval.
AI generates content that produces the sensation of meaning without the capability increase that genuine meaning leaves. The distinction is testable. The test is whether the sensation corresponded to something that persists.
Meaning is not felt. It is left. Either someone can do something they could not before — or meaning did not occur.

Genuine contribution does not end with the first person it reaches. It ends — if it ends — when the last person it reaches stops transmitting it.
Every genuine formation encounter creates the potential for further genuine formation encounters. The person who genuinely receives genuine formation becomes genuinely capable of enabling others — not through instruction or information transfer, but through the specific way that genuine formation shapes how a practitioner engages with genuine problems, approaches genuine difficulty, and enables others to develop genuine capability.
